Pre-Float Instructions and What to Bring

  • We encourage you to wear comfy clothes to your appointment that are easy to change in and out of.
  • We highly recommend floating nude, but of course you may float in your bathing suit! Bring a bag for the wet bathing suit.
  • Bring a brush or comb to use for your hair after your post-float shower.
  • We provide shampoo and body wash, however, if you would like to bring conditioner, deodorant or body lotion for your post-float shower and change only, please do. Please do not use sprays as they may create a slippery floor.
  • You may choose to bring a pen and journal or notepad to record thoughts, ideas or experiences soon after your float.
  • Eat a light meal before floating (at least 60-90 minutes ahead of time): this may reduce the chances of your belly growling which can cause disruption when you are in the tank.
  • Avoid caffeine and other stimulants at least 2-3 hours before you float as they may interrupt your relaxation response.
  • Do not shave, wax or tan the day of your float.
  • No contact lenses, jewelry or make-up should be worn during the float session. Please remove before your float.
  • Please reschedule within 24 hours of your appointment time if you have open cuts or sores or are experiencing your menstrual cycle.

Your First Float Visit

Arrival

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to your scheduled Float Therapy appointment in order to transition away from the outside world, sign a waiver and receive a walk-through before your float session.

When you arrive, you will be checked in and a review of the float process will provide you with some helpful tips and the amenities available to you. We will make sure you are comfortable and ready to enjoy the experience.

We provide several amenities that are included in your float session for your comfort and convenience: 1 bath towel, 1 hand towel, shampoo, body wash, optional ear plugs, optional foam ring headrest for neck support and a bottle of fresh water for rinsing your face.

Before Your Float

To ensure privacy and complete relaxation during your float, the Float Room provides a small changing area with a bench, a private shower, the float tank and a lockable outer door.

Remember to remove all clothing, jewelry and contact lenses. If preferred, feel free to put on your bathing suit. Insert the ear plugs snugly to keep out salt water. Then you will take a shower using body wash while rinsing your hair to remove deodorants, hair products, oils and lotions before you enter the float tank.

When the music is on and you are ready to float, dry your face, carefully step into the float tank and close the glass door behind you to preserve the warm air. Slowly lie back, using the foam ring headrest if preferred, and let the water help you float to achieve a feeling of weightlessness.

During Your Float

You may adjust the volume of the music, change the color of the light or turn off the light if desired by using the controls on the left side of the tank wall. There is also an intercom system if you have questions or need assistance from our staff. Remember to avoid touching your face as your hands will now be wet with salt water. Do not swallow or go under the float tank water. A bottle of fresh water is available in the float tank and may be used to flush your eyes or face in the event that salt water begins to sting or irritate you.

Once you have settled in, center yourself in the float tank and breathe slowly. Become aware of your body and begin to relax the tension from your muscles as you quiet and focus your mind to be in the present. Be intentional and patient with this process as you become aware of how your mind and body work together.

It may take some time for you to fully relax and calm your mind. Be kind with yourself as this is normal and will improve with practice as you float more. Try listening to your breathing or focusing on the music as you let your mind drift away. The environment in the float tank will provide a peaceful place to explore your meditation practice, brainstorm ideas or just let your mind wander. Eventually, as both your mind and body relax, you will enjoy a feeling of weightlessness, timelessness and ease.

Benefits After Your Float

When your session time is coming to an end, our staff will use the intercom to let you know you have a few minutes before the float tank begins circulating the water to prepare for cleaning. Take your time standing up, wringing your hair out and exiting of the tank safely to return to the real world.

You will need to take a shower using the shampoo and body wash provided to ensure you leave the salt behind. If you chose not to use the ear plugs during your float, remember to rinse your ears out as thoroughly as possible to remove salt residue. When you are done with your shower, leave the towels and ear plugs in the bin and we will clean them up later.

Following your float session, your mind and body will feel refreshed and energized due to the effects of sensory deprivation and the feeling of weightlessness. We welcome you to drink some water or tea in our Relaxation Room before continuing with your busy day. Whether you stay with us or go out to your car, we recommend that you take a few minutes to sit, reflect and be aware of how you feel. Treat this time as part of your session. Improve your habits and resist the desire to check your phone for messages. Try doodling or writing down your thoughts and ideas while you continue to relax.

We would love to hear about your float experience. Please share your thoughts and we may be able to provide tips for your next float as well.

Your Next Float Visit

Many people have reported improved overall wellness and clear-headedness days after their float session. Studies have shown that Float Therapy has cumulative benefits and is best practiced through ongoing therapeutic sessions.

To get started, we recommend floating every 10 days for a minimum of 3 sessions to gain the full relaxation experience and to determine if it’s a good fit for your wellness and self-care routine. Once you have decided that Float Therapy is right for you, the frequency of your ongoing floats depends on your needs.
